An A-Z Bible Resource for Young Children at Home

I’ve taught preschool Sunday School in several church settings over the last 27 years as a mother, but I’ve often been disappointed by the cheesy graphics and silly approach that many resources use.

As a homeschool mom who is inspired by the philosophy of Charlotte Mason and Maria Montessori, I longed for our children to have the same sacred and beautiful approach to learning about Jesus that we take to learning about the world around us.

I started researching and stumbled upon the work of Sofia Cavaletti, who created The Catechism of the Good Shepherd to disciple young children in the faith in a way that invites a deeper and more meaningful connection to God.

I wanted to adapt some of the beauty of these philosophies for families and churches in different theological streams, so we created The Good Gospel. This resource is non-denominational and it focuses on the life of Jesus and the truth that God loves us and wants a relationship with us. It can be used by liturgical and non-liturgical churches to give young children the opportunity to develop a saving faith in Jesus Christ and a deeper prayer life.

Easily adaptable to a bilingual family

We're all cradle Catholics who didn't grow up memorizing verses so I'd like to get better at it myself while instilling it in our kids. This curriculum sets one up for success by dedicating each week to a particular verse and its corresponding Gospel story and artwork (plus related activities).

Because we're bilingual, I also like that I don't have to keep everything in English. Instead, I note the verse + Gospel reading in my (Peaceful Press) Homeschool Planner for the following week and bookmark them on our Kids Spanish-language Bible. Easy peasy!

Lastly, and I don't think this was done on purpose because the Pepitos are Protestant* and we start our school year in January.. I found the Gospel stories to match the ones read at Mass--at least for the early weeks. As someone who enjoys listening to Catholic podcasts (like Sunday School, which explains said Gospel readings, and Fr. Mike Schmit's Sunday Homilies!), I was pleasantly surprised and overjoyed to have come across this coincidence.

One suggestion:: Please consider making the files easier to print by offering both ONE big file and THREE zipped folders incl. The Parent Guide, the Printables, and the Artwork. This way, one can, for instance, print and bind *only* the PG, print the Printables as needed (or skip if not needed), and either print each Art piece as needed *or* send them all to have them affordably printed on cardboard elsewhere so they can become sturdier pieces the family can save for later picture studies or playroom/homeschool art that can be hung up and preserved for a long time. There ARE free apps that let us successfully separate PDFs (we used Stirling for making our own "three" files), but it' be neat and easier if this was by default.

This is an excellent choice in homeschooling!

My girls and I have enjoyed the first few weeks of homeschool using this curriculum. It’s age appropriate for my 2 and 3 year olds! We love the activities, the recipe book, and the field trips! It’s great for their attention span, we don’t sit too long at any activity! Always moving and doing neat things!

      It’s so easy

I was feeling a little intimidated by the thought of homeschooling when I decided to go this route and was getting worried when it was getting closer to start I didn’t know where to begin and I wasn’t sure if I was covering everything my child needed until I stumbled upon The Peaceful Press! It’s so organized and Every lesson is laid out for you, It is literally tear free. I definitely recommend this program to all families looking to homeschool.

      Lovely Lent resource

We’ve been using The Good Gospel as part of our morning time for a few weeks and I’ve also used it a couple times during our weekly family worship evening. My 6 year old is enjoying the coloring pages and tracing the verses. We haven’t tried any crafts yet but I would if I used it in a Sunday school setting. The simple structure, short story, prompts for reflection, and beautiful paintings make it enjoyable for me too. Loved sharing the idea of candles and prayer silks for reflection time with my family.

      This curriculum works great!

We are able to easily for the first time ever, homeschool! With a 5 year old, 3.5 year old and 1.5 year old while also 7months pregnant - Homeschooling is hard! This curriculum has refocused my family on Jesus during our lessons, and has made our days much easier. I love that the lesson are grab and go for me, and I can expand on what we do or do just the basic. My children are loving their "schooling" as my oldest calls it and begs to do it. She says, " It feels like Jesus is right here doing it with us!" That was my main goal all along and I'm so thankful I took the plunge and purchased this curriculum. Thanks Peaceful Press 🙌🏻
