30 Life-Giving Habits for a Peaceful Home
At the Restoration Home Community retreat we focused on hope, healing, and habits, helping each of the moms refine their vision, pursue emotional healing, and put in life giving habits for peaceful homes.
Each of the moms shared a habit that was life giving to them this year, and in the Restoration Home Community we focus on just a few habits each month so we can grow in small and sustainable ways.
We recommend keeping track of your habit progress in the Peaceful Press Planner or the Restoration Home Daily Journal.

Heart and Mind
- Take thoughts captive and choose joy. Turn complaining thoughts into positive ones and replace worry with prayer.
- Practice daily prayer. Bring your concerns, gratitude, and needs to God throughout the day.
- Make time for a daily brain dump. Clear your mind and organize your thoughts.
- Make time for personal reading.
- Take sunshine breaks. Step outside, breathe deeply, and enjoy a few minutes of fresh air.
Marriage and Family Connection
- Greet your husband warmly. Smile, offer a hug, and welcome him home.
- Pray for your husband and think the best of him.
- Have a daily marriage check-in. Spend 15 minutes sharing your thorns and roses.
- Hold a weekly marriage meeting. Use The Marriage Journal to talk through practical matters and nurture your relationship.
- Intentionally renew your marriage covenant each week. Turn toward your husband and invest in your relationship.
- Offer affection throughout the day. Give your children smiles, hugs, and simple loving touches.
- Give your children attentive, face-to-face connection. Make eye contact at their level and turn toward them when they speak.
- Listen attentively and ask thoughtful questions. Notice when your children want to share something and show interest in their world.
- Greet your children enthusiastically and affirm them daily. Notice what they do well and tell them what you appreciate.
- Slow down and enter your children's world. Meet younger children in their interests, dance together, and make room for connection.
- Say yes more often to helping hands. Welcome your children's participation in the kitchen and everyday family work.
Faith and Learning
- Establish a daily morning time. Bring the family together for meaningful learning and connection.
- Practice virtue and Bible memory. Revisit Scripture and the character qualities you want to cultivate.
- Build daily Scripture, prayer, and worship into family life.
- Read a Psalm and a Proverb, pray, sing a hymn, and sing Scripture together.
- Make worship music part of everyday life.
- Support your husband's leadership in family worship.
- Practice music consistently. Make time for music practice, including opportunities to practice with Dad
- Smile through challenging school subjects. Bring patience and encouragement to your homeschool.
Home and Responsibility
- Give each child a zone of responsibility. Train children to care for a specific area of the home.
- Follow through with chores. Use a chore chart, teach jobs carefully, and consistently inspect the work.
- Practice an all-hands-on-deck evening reset. Have everyone help restore order to the house after dinner.
- Plan and prepare meals ahead. Use Sunday meal prep to make the week run more smoothly.
- Prepare for tomorrow each evening. Set out what you need and establish a restful evening rhythm.
Health and Rest
- Protect restful evenings and healthy rhythms. Keep your phone put away, take evening supplements, and maintain a consistent bedtime and rising time.
- Spend time outdoors every day. Make room for fresh air, movement, and nature.
Habits can feel daunting when you see a lot of them listed at once, but when you choose just a couple to focus on each month, you see real progress in the peaceful atmosphere of your home and family.
