A Cozy Christmas Chapter Book List for Families

Throughout our life as a family, we have read many books that highlight virtue and turn our hearts to heaven, but Christmas is a special season where life slows down a little and space opens up to make room for reflection and contemplation of the good news of the gospel.

As well, when we make the most of the Advent season, we enter the new year with a little more hope and vision.

These chapter books highlight Christian themes of kindness and generosity, and will make a welcome addition to your advent traditions.

Christmas Read-Aloud Book List

A Christmas Carol- Charles Dickens

A classic story about the true meaning of Christmas, highlighting the joy of generosity.

I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing - Elizabeth Goudge

A tender, luminous Christmas tale full of mystery, kindness, and the joy of unexpected gifts.

Little House Christmas Treasury - Laura Ingalls Wilder

Stories of pioneer Christmases—simple, heartfelt, and full of gratitude. Perfect for shorter nightly readings. Each of the five books we include in the Playful Pioneers Volume 1 include a beautiful story of Christmas which makes all 30 weeks of the curriculum delightful!

The Gift of the Magi -O. Henry

Not exclusively a Christmas story, yet its opening chapters capture the beauty of generosity, family, and seasonal warmth.

The Family Under the Bridge — Natalie Savage Carlson

A tender, hope-filled story of an unlikely friendship and the transformative spirit of Christmas.

Christmas Remembered — Tomie dePaola

A charming, beautifully illustrated memoir of the author’s childhood Christmases—full of nostalgia and storytelling magic.

All Creation Waits — Gayle Boss

A reflective Advent journey through nature, inviting families to slow down and wonder at Creation’s quiet preparation for Christmas. Pair this with Unearthing Wonder Advent for a Christ centered holiday devotional.

Any of these would make a delightful evening read aloud, but we highly recommend grabbing Unearthing Wonder and All Creation Waits for a beautiful family tradition this Christmas season.

Each of the 25 days of Christmas includes a new reading featuring animals in winter.

It can count towards your science and literature for the month, but when paired with Unearthing Wonder Advent which includes scripture and reflections from the Christmas story, you will create a holy Advent celebration that draws your family closer to each other and to God.

Beautifully balanced!

Preparing for our first week and can’t wait! The curriculum is so beautifully balanced, providing lots of opportunity for hands-on learning, practical life skills, and fun exploration in nature while still ensuring that phonics and math concepts are being reinforced in a variety of ways. Honestly this curriculum brings out all the things I love about Sonlight Curriculum without being overkill and burdensome as Sonlight can tend to be with its long list of recommended daily tasks. The preparation and daily amount of tasks with Nourishing Nature appears very manageable. Also love that there is a handwriting component! I can already foresee the joy this is going to bring our family!

Love Peaceful Preschool's Flexibility

So far we are really enjoying the Peaceful Preschool curriculum. I like the flexibility, easily integrated activities and fun books! My son does as well ;) We are starting the curriculum in the spring and doing the letters at first in the order of his name. So some of the Christmassy or fall activities I've had to scramble around for more seasonally appropriate ones. But it's totally doable! The one piece of negative feedback I have is this: We purchased the digital bundle and printed everything out on normal paper. Now I've realized I need to print the preschool printouts on a thicker cardstock paper. It would have been nice to have some instruction or recommendation related to that written in the email from our purchase.

Best Summer Incoming

I bought the kindergarten summer bundle which includes all 3 summer learning guides. I already have the first one written in my planner! I love having fun learning to carry us through summer! We haven't actually started yet but I can tell you my 4 & 5yr old will love it! If you're on the fence this is your sign to buy it!

Playful Pioneers Volume 2

I recommend Peaceful Press to anyone who asks (and many who don't). I love that the cursive handwriting has a space for the student to write with the example above. I wish the print handwriting had the same option. We have loved the other two rotations that we have used and I am very much looking forward to using this one this fall.
