Ancient History Project Based Learning

A Curriculum That Nurtures Creativity

We studied The Precious People,  our world history curriculum, with a local co-op and savored the crafts and activities in a community setting.

During the year, we made Christmas ornaments and beeswax salve, had honey tastings, and even made a water wheel.

It was so fun to see the water grab the cups and start spinning the wheel!

It was a simple project. Each child needed 2 thick paper plates, 1 wooden skewer, 6-8 small paper cups, and tape.

To make your water wheel, start by taping the cups around the bottom of a paper plate with the open side facing the outer edge of the plate.

Then, place the other plate on top and secure the cups to the second plate.

Finally, stick the skewer through the center of the plates to finish your water wheel.

We tested our water wheels in a nearby creek, where chaos ensued as the water dragged the wheels away. The children dashed to save the pieces and prevent littering, but we were able to see that our wheels actually spun. We could imagine the people of ancient history grinding grain and generating power with their water wheel.

Welcome to The Precious People, where projects like this are an everyday part of learning world history.

This isn’t just an ancient history curriculum—it’s a journey through time and culture, stitched together with story, art, faith, and hands-on discovery. Created for homeschooling families who want more than worksheets and textbooks, The Precious People offers a rich, literature-based adventure through ancient history and beyond.

A Curriculum That Breathes Life Into Learning

At its heart, The Precious People is about connection. It connects history to the present, literature to lived experience, and your child’s hands-on work to people's hearts across time and continents.

Each month, you will travel chronologically through world history, starting with the days of creation, Jewish feasts, and then following with Egypt, Greece, Rome, and then following missionaries as they journey to Asia, Africa, and South America.  Each month is paired with engaging read-alouds and simple but meaningful activities. You’ll explore:

  • Ancient civilizations and the early Middle Ages

  • Non-Western cultures and global traditions

  • The roots of Western literature and faith

But most of all, you’ll explore people—their stories, their food, their art, and their enduring beauty.

What's Inside the Journey?

✨ The Parent Guide
This is your compass, gently guiding you through each day. With Bible readings, science experiments, poetry, copywork, and more, the guide is designed to weave truth, beauty, and goodness into your daily rhythm, without overwhelming you.

🖋️ Student Sheets for Every Learner
Whether your child is tracing their first letters or writing in flowing cursive, there’s something for them. With hand-drawn illustrations, copywork, poetry, and Bible verses, these sheets build grammar, vocabulary, and handwriting skills gently and joyfully.

🍲 Recipes That Tell a Story
Why just read about another culture when you can taste it? Each week features a recipe inspired by your studies—think honey cake stew from ancient Egypt, or arroz con leche from South America. Food becomes a delicious gateway to history and geography.

🎨 Art That Inspires
Gorgeous images tied to the lessons offer a visual feast and spark creativity. Display them, discuss them, paint your own version—this is history you can hang on your fridge.

🤝 A Co-Op Guide for Community Learning
Education flourishes in the community. The included co-op guide makes it easy to gather with friends around a picnic table or in a living room to celebrate culture and history together. This resource also pairs well with Classical Conversations Cycle 1 for families who want more literature and hands-on projects to enhance their homeschool.

More Than Academics—A Heart for the World

The Precious People isn’t just about timelines and maps. It’s about cultivating empathy. As your child discovers how people lived, created, and believed across time and borders, they begin to see the world through a compassionate lens. They realize that ancient Egyptians, Chinese scholars, and desert nomads were not just historical figures—they were real people with dreams, fears, families, and stories worth knowing.

This curriculum helps your child understand that all people—past and present—are precious.
