Create a Flourishing Home: Habits, Connection, and Hope for Real Families

Create a Flourishing Home: Habits, Connection, and Hope for Real Families

Many of us want to create a flourishing home, but we get confused about where to start.

When I was a young mom with five children under ten, I stumbled across a book called Managers of Their Homes. It promised order, peace, and productivity through an intricate system of 15-minute time slots, color-coded Post-it notes, and carefully planned schedules designed to meet the needs of husbands, children, and ever-multiplying laundry piles.

I appreciated the wisdom in that book. Truly, I did.

But I never mastered the system.

Because I wasn’t managing tasks—I was caring for real humans with real needs. Toddlers who needed comfort. Children who needed connection. A home that needed attention, yes—but not at the expense of relationship.

Even then, I knew something important:
Connection is the foundation of a flourishing home.

Why Habits Alone Aren’t Enough

Habits matter. Structure matters. Order matters.

But habits without relationship eventually lead to burnout.

Many of us feel the tension:

We want to be present and loving

We want to be organized and faithful

We want homes that are peaceful—but not rigid

We want rhythms that support life—not squeeze it into 15-minute boxes

Trying to be gentle and kind while staring down overflowing laundry baskets can feel overwhelming. The pressure to “do it all” can quietly rob us of joy.

What we need is not more hustle—but life-giving systems that honor both order and relationship.

A Simpler, Life-Giving Way to Flourish

This is the heart behind the Restoration Home Community—a gentle, sustainable process for nurturing flourishing families without striving or perfectionism.

We focus on five core movements:

1. Vision: Knowing What Truly Matters

Everything begins with vision.

We start by clarifying:

  • What do we want our children to remember?
  • What kind of home are we building?
  • What values guide our daily decisions?
  • What kind of person do we want to be?
  • What do we want to be remembered for at the end of our lives?

When we know our why, daily habits stop feeling random or oppressive. Vision helps us choose rhythms that align with what matters most—faith, connection, beauty, learning, and rest. Download a free family vision template here

2.  Healing: Caring for Body and Spirit

Flourishing doesn’t come from pushing harder.

In the Restoration Home Community, we move at a pace that allows for healing and wholeness:

  • Paying attention to emotional and spiritual unrest
  • Supporting physical health and rest
  • Making room for honest conversation and mutual encouragement
  • Learning to take our thoughts captive and replace lies with truth
  • Sustainable, guilt free encouragement for a deeper walk with God

We aren’t stuffing emotions or running ourselves ragged. We’re learning to listen—to our bodies, our spirits, and one another. When mothers grow in health and peace, it naturally blesses their children. Find a list of Jennifer's favorite healthy family tips here!

3. Habits: Building Rhythms for Home, Faith, and Connection

Each month, we focus on a small set of meaningful habits—never overwhelming, always intentional.

Some habits nurture:

  • Connection with our children and spouse
  • Order in our homes and homeschools
  • Spiritual growth and prayer

Others support personal growth, creativity, or rest.

Because we are whole people, not just homeschool moms.

We are readers, creators, bakers, teachers, organizers, lovers of beauty and truth. Our habits reflect the fullness of who we are—and who we’re becoming.

4. Hope: Lifting Our Eyes Beyond the Work

A flourishing life must include joy and hope and we cultivate this by:

  • Anchoring ourselves in the promises of God
  • Anticipating nature outings, feast days, and shared celebrations
  • Refusing an “all work, no play” mentality

We also nurture hope through in person connection. Throughout the year, we gather for:

Quarterly regional meetups

A life-giving annual retreat

These rhythms remind us that growth is meant to be celebrated, not endured.
