Essential Habits for a Happy Homeschool

Essential Habits for a Happy Homeschool

In my book, Habits for a Sacred Home, I talk about how habits can anchor our families and create more peace.

And in the Restoration Home Community, we hold each other accountable for essential habits through monthly habit check-ins.

In 2025 we will be focusing on habits such as-

Time log- We take one month to just track our time and find out if our daily activities align with our vision.

Eye contact- Focusing on eye contact with our children helps them become more responsive to us.

Chore chart training- As we take time to inspect what we expect and follow through on teaching our children practical skills, our homes become more peaceful.

Daily workout- Taking time each day to move our bodies each day can help keep our minds clear.

Daily declutter- Just a few minutes a day of decluttering create more orderly homes which facilitates learning.

Daily read aloud- Reading aloud to our children each day helps build thinking skills and connection.

Morning routine before screens/Daily screen free time- Taking time to be reflective before looking at our screens protects our dopamine and gives us more purpose to our days.

Nature walk/time outside- Getting outside every day helps calm us and our children.

Teach room care/bed making- Homeschooling works better when basic habits are in place, but taking time to teach these basic habits is an essential.

Morning Bible time- We read the Bible every day during morning time and it creates a great hedge for our life and our days.

Evening pick-up- Once you have a morning routine down, developing an evening routine is an awesome way to create more peaceful homeschool days.

These are just some of the habits that can help you create a happier homeschool, and when you focus on just one or two at a time, you will soon be enjoying smoother homeschool days.

One of the keys to staying consistent with habits is building a community that supports your efforts. This might mean sharing your goals with your homeschool co-op, or asking a friend to buddy up with you.
