How to Plan Your Homeschool

Planning is a key to peaceful homes

During the summer months it's easy to let rhythm fly out the window as we embrace slower days.

But when we let go of basic healthy habits, we have an uphill battle to regain rhythm when we start a new school year.

For myself, continually revisiting my morning routine, long term vision, and weekly schedule help me stay connected to my family which creates more peaceful relationships.

During the summer, even if we have house guests, we keep up these basic rhythms-

  1. Review our family vision. In the Restoration Home Community we ask moms to write down what they want their children to remember about life in their home, and I consistently review our family vision so I can align my daily activities with my overarching vision.
  2. Daily journaling. I journal gratitude, prayer requests, and write scripture in the margins of my Bible.
  3. Daily movement. I do a ten minute morning workout and also include swimming, walks with friends, or exercise classes each week.
  4. Daily family gathering. We eat a meal together, read Psalms together, play a game, or read aloud. When my children were all young we also kept a  normal morning time rhythm using a resource like The Ocean Guide, or The Summer Guide.
  5. Daily home care. I spend extra time in the summer decluttering our books and school supplies, deep cleaning bathrooms, and teaching chores to my children. The Peaceful Press Chore and Routine pack includes a life skills checklist, info sheets on basic chores, and 120 chore and routine cards to help implement these skills.
  6. Weekly planning. Each Sunday I take time to look at the week ahead, write down any appointments or plans, and make sure I have plenty of outdoor time scheduled in. You can grab the dated Peaceful Press planner here which includes a habit tracker and monthly reflection pages, or click here for a printed planner on Amazon.
