How to Reset Your Home After a Busy Homeschool Season
After a hard push through fall homeschooling, our homes can start to feel a little worse for wear. Between lessons, projects, and daily life, clutter builds up—and so does our stress.
You can’t do everything perfectly, but a calm, tidy home makes a big difference in how your family feels. Here’s a simple formula I use to reset our home after a busy homeschool season—one I recently followed after returning from the Restoration Home Retreat. I hope it helps you, too.
Make a Master List
Start by writing down everything that needs to be done. You don’t have to tackle it all today, but getting your to-do list out of your head and onto paper helps you release the mental load. Once it’s written down, you can make a realistic plan instead of feeling overwhelmed.

Do First Things First
Focus on the spaces that affect your peace the most. For us, that’s the living room—the heart of our home. I like to tidy the space where we relax and read together. We keep only a few categories of toys there and a basket for read-aloud books so cleanup stays simple.
Tip: A clutter-free front room sets the tone for the rest of the house.

Enlist the Whole Family
Homeschooling is a team effort, and home care should be, too. Even little ones can help! In our house, each family member does their own laundry, but younger kids help by:
Taking dirty clothes to the laundry room
Folding washcloths or sorting socks
Putting away their clean clothes
You can also teach age-appropriate chores such as unloading the dishwasher, taking out the trash, or vacuuming. When everyone contributes, your home stays organized without constant burnout.

Put Down Your Phone
When it’s time for a deep reset—like decluttering homeschool supplies or deciding which books to store or donate—eliminate distractions.
Try locking your phone away, turning on an audiobook, or leaving it in another room so you can focus. You’ll get more done in less time, and your mind will feel clearer, too.

Know When to Stop
Perfection isn’t the goal. There were seasons when I cleaned too much and missed opportunities to connect with my kids. In hindsight, I wish I had let a few messes go and spent more time enjoying them.
Homeschooling with The Peaceful Press helped us prioritize meaningful moments—reading aloud together, doing practical life projects, and taking field trips that became core memories.
Sometimes, peace looks like letting go.
Ask yourself:
Do I need to create more order in my home—or give myself permission to rest?
Either way, you’re doing the work of building a home filled with love and learning.
