Summer Homeschool Morning Time

Summer Homeschool Morning Time

As we get closer to the end of the homeschool year, it can be tempting to throw out all the learning in favor of easy, interest-led days.

However, if you keep a simple summer homeschool morning time rhythm going, it will make the fall transition back into school smoother.

Morning time helps children:

Nurture the habit of attention

Develop listening skills

Learn something new

Feel loved by you

It's an excellent family routine that helps our children feel loved and cared for by us, as we nurture relationships and learning even in the summer months.

🕊️ Our Simple Summer Morning Rhythm

📖 1. Poetry, Scripture, or Prayer
We start with a poem or hymn and a short moment of daily prayer. The Nature Book Flood includes a weekly folk song, or poem, along with Bible copywork that would be the perfect addition to a summer morning time rhythm.

🌊 2. Read-Aloud
Include a read-aloud you didn't finish over the school year, the picture books from the Summer Bundle or Nature Book Flood, or a summer-themed chapter book such as Trumpet of the Swan, Swallows and Amazons, or Summer of the Monkeys. Take time to discuss what you are reading and listen to your children's thoughts.

📝 3. Copywork & Memory Work
I have my children continue handwriting practice through the summer by copying missed pages in their Peaceful Press student sheets, writing summer bucket lists, or copying the memory verse pages from the Nature Book Flood.

🌼 4. Nature Walk or Project
After our quiet morning time, we usually transition to free play, river outings, or summer projects. Our summer projects included simple gardening activities, canning peaches, watercolor painting, visiting new swimming holes, dipping beeswax candles, raising tadpoles, and picking berries.

The Nature Book Flood and the Nourishing Nature Summer Bundle both include fun learning projects that can help you stay connected with your children this summer.

As you are planning a summer morning time for your children, don't forget to nourish your soul.

Reading an inspiring homeschool or motherhood book, or taking a course, is a great way to enrich your home.
